According to the monthly report of the World Gold Council, in February Uzbekistan again became the world leader in the sale of gold.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has sold 22 tons, reducing the gold reserve to a minimum since the end of 2020. At the same time, analysts note that even after the sale in February, gold reserves still account for 59% of the total reserves.
In general, the gold reserves of the world's central banks decreased by 6 tons over the month. However, their total volume is still at the maximum level for the last 31 years.
A number of states at the same time increased the amount of gold in their reserves. Turkey bought 25 tons in a month, India — 2.6 tons, Ireland - 1 ton.
Gold export in Uzbekistan
In 2020, the country exported $5.8 billion worth of precious metal or 40% of total exports. Uzbekistan has for some time become the main supplier of gold in the world.
However, in 2021, the sale of gold fell to $4.1 billion, and it lost its status as the main export item. The Central Bank sold the metal only at the price peaks — in May and early June, as well as in October-November. At the same time, in November, he also sold more gold than any other country in the world.
Since the beginning of 2022, the sale of precious metals has intensified again. Gold accounted for more than half of Uzbek exports in January-February.
